Family and Fun

We had company!  We really miss all of our family and it was so nice to have some company.  Mom and Dad H. came to welcome Devyn home and to listen to him speak in Church.  They also got to hear him report to the stake presidency.  What a treat!

We enjoyed their visit so much!  It was fun to talk and to make meals together and to do a couple of activities.  The airboat trip in the Everglades was excellent--they saw 4 alligators, lots of birds and had an informative guide.  We enjoyed stopping in at the fruit stand and trying some Honeybells (a tangelo that is a little bit of citrus-y, juicy, yummy awesomeness).

We also got to have Mom here for part of her birthday!  It was so sad to drop them off at the airport at the end of their visit.  We were so sad to see them go.

[I'll add some pictures when I figure out how what file they are in.]

A few days later, our nephew Jaret flew in for his spring break from college.  We really enjoyed his visit!  We played in the pool, did yard work (woot!), the boys took a day and went to Universal Studios (Harry Potter World!), went to the beach and played in the ocean, and watched movies together.  It was great to see the cousins together.  They were so happy to see each other!  Derek still had school that week but they crammed a lot of things into his off school hours.
Stephen had ankle surgery to remove bone spurs and bone fragments the week that Jaret was here.  That cut into Stephen and my play time (no pun intended!).  But everyone still had a good time.  Jaret had forgotten that Stephen is like the energizer bunny--he keeps going and going and going.  It has been all we could do to keep him off of his ankle during this recovery period!
Exciting news . . . while Jaret was visiting he received his mission call!  Of course, he waited until he was home to open the letter.  It was torture for him to know that his call was waiting at home and he wasn't going to be there for 36 hours.  But, he did eventually open the letter and he is heading to the Peru Lima North Mission on August 3rd. We are SOOO excited for him!

After our visitors were gone, we all felt like the house was empty and lonely.  Back to the real world activities.

Thanks for coming to visit us!

  1. How fun to have visitors!! That always shrinks the miles between homes, doesn't it?

I hope that Steve continues to recover well from his ankle surgery and that you can keep him immobile long enough to let him heal.

    Miss you!

  3. I'm so glad Stephen is healing well! And thanks SO MUCH for taking in Jaret for spring break. He had a lot of fun, and I think it's been a little hard to adjust back to snow. Although I think he hasn't minded less humidity!
