Our Missionary

We dropped our missionary off at the airport today.  He is headed to the Missionary Training Center!

He's already had quite the adventure--a 2 1/2 hour airplane malfunction delay causing him to miss his connecting flight, rearranging the flight, calling Church Travel and finding out that he'd taken the proper steps to further his journey and having what should have taken 7 hours take 12 hours.

And he is loving every minute of his adventure!  He offered an older lady his suit jacket when she was freezing cold on the almost empty delayed flight and she told him that he was a gentleman and his mother had raised him right.

He enters the MTC tomorrow.  We hope he arrives safely and on time.  Thanks to the family members who are being his companions tonight and to his sister and brother-in-love for letting him crash at their place overnight and for taking him to the MTC tomorrow.

Happy Mission, son!  We love you.  (We know he won't read this for 2 years but it's what we're feeling right now--happy, excited, hearts full of love for him.  He will have outstanding and wonderful experiences as he serves his mission.  We have no doubts about that!)

  1. Kendra!!! So happy that Derek is joining Matt in the MTC. We've dreamed of this day for 18 years, right? Derek will be a humble, effective, AMAZING missionary, and I'm so anxious to read his letters. Good luck to Elder Holmstead. . . and to his family!

  2. Kendra! We've actually dreamed of this day TOGETHER for 18 years when we first met and our sons were a year old. Like me, I'm sure you've dreamed of Derek being a missionary since he was born. So, let's call it 19 years. He's going to be so awesome in Colorado!!
